During this crazy year of chaos and a radical transition away from what we consider as "normal," people's lives have been turned upside down with changes to their work / school / daily lives. People are working and learning from home on a scale that we have never seen before. Having said that, we see more and more people become sedentary and out of shape. It may become disheartening to see patients gaining weight each day, not feeling like themselves, and falling into ruts. Now, more than ever, it is important to remain busy!
Let's check why?
1) It gets you out of the door, while definitely not the most important, is the first justification to remain involved that comes to mind! It is not safe for children or adults to be cooped up all day working or learning. There are several advantages to going out for a run first thing in the morning (or some other time, though it is HOT). "Waking up with nature" is safe and awesome.
2) It has a very strong spiritual influence to hear the birds and animals wake up, to feel the sun rising. It just places you in the right mood to take your day with you. It also gives you natural vitamin D, which is an important factor (obviously very important these days) in maintaining your immune system healthy.
3) Second, and maybe most noticeable, it keeps you in shape by remaining healthy. Lung, heart, and brain wellbeing are important and it can help you keep the body healthy by remaining active by aerobic exercises or weight training. Mood elevation is another excuse to remain active (and my personal favourite).
4) In general, being healthy gets you out of the home, boosts your general health and immune system, puts you in a happier mood, and makes you more relaxed. These are always significant advantages, and especially in this crazy year that we are all going through together.
